Q: My membership has expired during the closure, can I reactivate or cancel my membership?
When UCLA’s campus closed in March 2020, Recreation paused all memberships with the intention to welcome you and your families back into our spaces as soon as safely possible. We’ve recently become aware of a nationwide shortage of pool chemicals that will constrain our ability to open North and SAC pools as originally planned, both of which are necessary to provide adequate capacity for students as well as staff, faculty, alumni, and community members.
Our Return to Rec membership is based on access to all Recreation facilities, and we are temporarily unable to provide that full access. With the chemical shortage, and with what amounts to a new capacity restriction, we have made the decision to delay facility access of UCLA alumni and community members with prepaid memberships. Due to this delay and unknown timeline for expanding eligibility, we are offering prorated refunds.
For prepaid monthly and annual memberships and lockers, we will calculate prorated refunds using March 16th, 2020 as the closure date. This process is not automatic and we do not store credit card details in our system for security reasons. Once you have submitted the refund request form, you will receive a confirmation email with more details. Refund Request Form
Please contact the specific facility to make arrangements to retrieve your belongings if desired. See the “Lockers” section below for contact details.
*For memberships and lockers paid for via payroll deduction, all payroll deductions have been cancelled. No action is needed. Payroll deduction will be an available method of payment for eligible employees in the future.
Q: How can I update my Recreation profile?
Members are unable to edit their own Recreation profiles. Please email email@example.com with any updates you’d like to make to your profile, and specify what information should be added and removed.
UCLA Students must also update their contact information through the Registrar’s office. UCLA Employees must update their contact information through UCPATH. Our Recreation system gets information from both UCLA Registrar and UCPATH.
Q: What happens to my Payroll Deduction during the closure?
All payroll deductions have been canceled effective our closure date, March 16, 2020. No action is necessary to cancel.
Payroll deduction is not available for Return to Rec quarterly memberships. Payroll Deduction will be an available payment option when Recreation implements our long-term membership in the future.
Q: What do I do if I believe fees have been deducted since the closure?
Please note, the March payroll deduction covered the use of Recreation facilities for February. Therefore, the last deduction should be February 28th (for monthly deductions) or March 18th (for biweekly deductions).
Review your pay stub in UCPath. Under the description "UCLA Fitness Recreation Fees" you should see a blank column as no deductions are being taken. The year-to-date column will show the total deductions taken from January through March 2020.
If you still see monthly deductions on your pay stub, please email our Member Services Team with a copy of your pay stub so we can assist you.
