On January 11th, 2021 , UCLA announced that Spring Quarter will continue with the plans put in place for Winter Quarter. The UCLA Campus will continue with primarily remote-only instruction due to updated directives issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
Per the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health's Protocols for Institutions of Higher Education, as well as the directives of campus leadership and the UC Office of the President, UCLA Recreation and its facilities must remain closed until further notice. This decision was not taken lightly, as the closure includes all indoor fitness centers, as well as outdoor facilities: tennis courts, swimming pools, and outdoor fields.

Q: What happens to my membership during the campus closure?
During the campus closure, all memberships have been placed on hold. For those members on Payroll Deduction, your deductions will not resume until our Recreation facilities have reopened. More details regarding membership extensions will be communicated when Recreation facilities determine a reopening timeline.
Q: How do I cancel my membership, locker, BHIP enrollment and/or fitness pass?
For all Recreation Members who wish to cancel their membership, locker, BHIP enrollment and/or fitness pass, please fill out the Recreation Cancellation Form
For memberships paid for via payroll deduction, all payroll deductions are currently suspended during the campus closure. By filling out this cancellation form, you are requesting that we do not restart your membership once we reopen.
Q: My membership has expired during the closure, do I need to renew my membership?
Recreation membership renewal is not available at this time. More details regarding membership extensions will be communicated when Recreation facilities determine a reopening timeline.
Q: What happens to my Payroll Deduction during the closure?
All payroll deductions are currently suspended during the campus closure. We will determine a date for payroll deductions to resume once we have an opening date, and will inform all members via email.

Q: What do I do if I believe fees have been deducted since the closure?
Please note, the March payroll deduction covered the use of Recreation facilities for February. Therefore, the last deduction should be February 28th (for monthly deductions) or March 18th (for biweekly deductions).
Review your pay stub in UCPath. Under the description "UCLA Fitness Recreation Fees" you should see a blank column as no deductions are being taken. The year-to-date column will show the total deductions taken from January through March 2020.

Q: When can I pick up my belongings from my locker?
Per campus guidelines, only essential employees are allowed to access Recreation facilities. Therefore, locker retrievals are only available through online reservation during pre-selected dates and times that are pre-approved by Campus.
All current and recently cancelled locker holders will be emailed details and reservation instructions for next retrieval dates. Please ensure firstname.lastname@example.org is added to your email address book to ensure upcoming emails do not fall into your SPAM folder.
Additional locker retrieval dates will be offered in February and March. Please reserve a timeslot on our website: Locker Retrieval Reservations.
Q: What happens to my items if I cancel my locker rental service?
If you cancel your locker rental service, please try to pick up your belongings during our locker retrieval dates. If you are not able to attend a retrieval date, however, your items will remain safe and secure until you are able to collect them when our facilities open.
Q: When facilities open, will I be able to renew my same locker?
When facilities open, we will do our best to allow patrons to renew their current locker if locker rentals are available. Please understand that, even when facilities do reopen, it may be a phased reopening and locker rentals may not be permitted under the initial opening guidelines set forth by the LA County Department of Public Health or by the UC Office of the President. We will let patrons know when opening guidelines have been established whether or not locker rentals will be available, and if so, if current lockers will be available for renewal.
Q: Will my mandatory student fees that fund Campus and Recreation Services be refunded during the closure?
In Spring 2020, the UC Office of the President announced “tuition and mandatory fees have been set regardless of the method of instruction, and will not be refunded in the event instruction occurs remotely for any part of the academic year.” This includes the mandatory fees that support Recreation facilities and programs. UCLA Recreation does not have the authority or ability to refund these fees to students, and any future decisions about mandatory fees will be determined by campus leadership.

Q: When will Recreation facilities open?
At this time, we do not have a definitive opening date for any of our Recreation facilities. We are working with campus leadership and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to determine a safe and appropriate timeline for opening our facilities. Our reopening timeline will most likely coincide with an expansion of campus activity.
Q: Why aren’t outdoor pools and tennis courts open?
Although pools, tennis courts, and other outdoor recreation facilities have been approved for reopening in LA County, UCLA’s campus is closed to all but essential activities inas part of adherence to the County guidelines for Institutions of Higher Education
Although the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has approved participation in outdoor sports and recreational activities for county residents, UCLA Recreation must follow the directives of campus leadership and UC Office of the President. Additionally, campus leadership must adhere to the LA County Department of Health’s Protocols for Institutions of Higher Education, which recommends universities limit campus occupancy. For these reasons, UCLA Recreation’s facilities must remain closed.
Q: When will Recreation spaces open for event rentals? Can I request a reservation now for a future event?
At this time, Recreation is not taking any space reservation requests, as we do not have a definitive opening date for any of our facilities. We will open our online reservation system when we are able to open facilities and have procedures in place to ensure all events abide by guidelines set forth by the LA County Department of Public Health and the UC Office of the President.
Spring 2021 Eligibility + Classes
Q: Who is eligible to register for classes in Spring 2021? Why are there fees for virtual classes?
Current UCLA students, faculty, staff, and all community affiliates who had a Recreation membership at the beginning of 2020 are eligible for virtual programs, passes and classes.
There are no additional costs for enrolled UCLA undergraduate and graduate* students who are paying Recreation service fees through tuition.
Faculty, staff and Recreation members will notice a fee to register in all programs and classes. Since UCLA students support Recreation facilities through mandatory fees paid by their tuition, and since Los Angeles County and the campus have not approved the Recreation facilities to reopen yet, most enrolled students are being offered virtual programming for the fall and winter quarters with no additional fees. It has always been our philosophy that no one should pay less than a current student, so we are charging faculty, staff and unenrolled students reduced participation fees for our virtual programming.
* Self-supporting graduate degree programs , which do not pay the Recreation service fee through tuition, are eligible for a Spring Virtual Fitness Pass at no cost. All other programs and classes will cost the fee listed on the website. **Reminder: All payroll deduction and prepaid memberships have been paused, as none of our facilities have been open since mid-March.
Q: How do I access my purchased class?
After you purchase the class, you will receive a confirmation email with an attachment. Please open up the attached PDF to have access to the zoom link, password, and any other relevant class information. Please do not share this unique link with anyone, as it may forfeit your spot in the program.

Fitpasses + Personal Fitness Training
Q: What programs will be offered during Winter 2020? Will they be virtual or in-person?
We expect all programs and classes to be held online remotely for the duration of Winter Quarter. We anticipate offering fitness passes, dance, music, youth after school programs, cooking classes, martial arts classes and more.

Which facilities are available?
Sunset Canyon Recreation Center Lawns and Tennis Courts are available for Bookings. We will post information about additional facilities on this webpage as they become available.
What are the cancellation policies for Bookings and how do I cancel my Booking?
- Bookings that cannot be attended must be cancelled no later than 60 minutes prior to the start time. Failure to cancel your Booking may result to a membership suspension.

I am a UCLA Alumni. Can I purchase the Return to Rec membership?
No. At this time, only currently enrolled UCLA students and employees are eligible for this membership to make reservations for our outdoor facilities.
When will additional spaces reopen?

What payment methods are acceptable?
Online payments (credit card, debit card) are accepted. No purchases can be made in person. No refunds are available. This membership is not prorated.
How do I make a group reservation? Is the Return to Rec Membership required?
Group and facility reservations do not require a Return to Rec membership and must be requested through our Reservation system: https://reserve.recreation.ucla.edu/
What safety measures will UCLA Recreation staff be following for in person Bookings?
- Face masks are required for all staff; those in closer contact with also have a face shield
- Facilities now have additional floor markings and signage to keep staff and patrons at safe distances
- Facilities have reduced capacities
- Most facility hours and booking times have been staggered to allow for sanitation of equipment.
- Recreation staff are following University required COVID testing guidelines and some partake in the vaccine program
What should I do if I need special accommodations?
- Please email firstname.lastname@example.org at least 48 hours prior to your Booking with details so we could plan and best accommodate your request.
Can I bring my dependent, household adult, guest, or pet to the facility?
- No. Only the member designated for the Booking may come to the UCLA campus per Campus guidelines.
- For SCRC Tennis Bookings, both players must make a Booking for the specific timeslot in order to play together. Members who make an individual tennis Booking are not guaranteed a 2nd player, therefore we recommend booking in pairs.
How can I update my Recreation Profile?
Members are unable to edit their own Recreation profiles. Please also email email@example.com with any updates you’d like to make to your profile, and specify what information should be added and removed.
UCLA Students must also update their contact information through the Registrar’s office. UCLA Employees must update their contact information through UCPATH. Our Recreation system gets information from both UCLA Registrar and UCPATH.
