Bruin Health Improvement Program (BHIP) .5: Nutrition & Weight Loss

The Bruin Health Improvement Program (BHIP) .5 is a 10 week long physical and mindfulness weight loss program designed to increase the fitness and thereby the health of the UCLA Employee. BHIP .5 is a customized program for those who are 40 or more pounds overweight and/or severely sedentary. It is funded by UCLA and is a tremendous investment in UCLA’s most precious resource: the staff and faculty.

**Must be employed 50% time or more to be eligible to apply for BHIP and/or BHIP.5.

LIVE Virtual BHIP.5 Programs - Winter 2021:

NUTRITION ONLY PROGRAM
A 10-week weight loss program that offers nutritional guidance, live practical cooking classes and meal prepping. One live nutrition/cooking/meal prepping session led by the UCLA Teaching Kitchen chef and FITWELL registered dietitian and one live nutrition session are offered each week. BHIP.5 is appropriate for individuals who are 40 pounds or more overweight and whose primary goal is weight loss. Participants are chosen via a lottery drawing of applications. : 1/25/21 - 3/31/21

Class Days/Times:
-Mondays, 5:30-7:00p (Nutrition/Cooking class)
-Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30p (Nutrition class)
Plus 30 min 1:1s with registered dietitian!


Applications were available on the website from Monday 1/4/21 - Wednesday 1/13/21 12:00pm. Lottery results were sent on Thursday 1/14/21.

Three live workouts led by certified fitness professionals and one live nutrition/cooking/meal prepping session led by the UCLA Teaching Kitchen chef and FITWELL registered dietitian are offered each week. BHIP.5 is appropriate for individuals who are 40 pounds or more overweight and physically inactive, and whose primary goal is weight loss. Participants are chosen via a lottery drawing of applications. Click on the link below to apply to the lottery!

Class Days/Times:
-Mondays, 5:30-7:00p (Nutrition/Cooking class)
-Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays, 5:30-6:30p (Workout classes)


For the best experience, participants need the following equipment :

(1) Dumbbells (a light, medium, and heavy set is great, but whatever you have will do);

(2) Resistance Band (i.e. tube with handle, click to see image )

(3) Resistance Loop (i.e. small loop, click to see image )

(4) Optional: Tennis balls and Foam Roller.


**BHIP kits, which include a Resistance Band, Resistance Loop, and optional foam roller, will be available to purchase at a discounted price through Fitness First. More information will be shared with lottery results.

Important Eligibility Information:

In-person program: There is a $150 repeat fee or individuals who have participated in at least four weeks of the program and who wish to repeat BHIP.5.

Virtual program: There is a $40 repeat fee or individuals who have participated in at least four weeks of the program and who wish to repeat BHIP.5

BHIP.5 is no longer offering deferrals.

Graduate Student Employees (at 50% time or more) are eligible to apply for BHIP and/or BHIP.5.

The Bruin Health Improvement Program (BHIP) is a 10 week long program—exclusively for UCLA faculty and staff at no cost (for first time participants)—offering participants intensive lifestyle training in areas of exercise, nutrition, stress management and mental conditioning.

BHIP ONRAMP

BHIP OnRamp is a comprehensive conditioning program that will improve cardiovascular fitness and overall strength and mobility. It is appropriate for individuals without current limitations looking to become much more physically active and nutritionally mindful.

LIVE Virtual BHIP OnRamp - Winter 2021:

A 10-week health improvement program designed for individuals looking to become much more physically active and nutritionally mindful while safer at home. Enjoy live workouts led by certified fitness professionals that you can do right in your home three times per week and improve eating habits with a 30 Day Nutrition Challenge. Participants are chosen via a lottery drawing of applications. Click on the link below to apply to the lottery!

As a BHIP graduate, you have the opportunity to continue what you've learned in BHIP OnRamp with BHIP OnGoing. Classes are available LIVE (virtually) 3 days a week - Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Physical Activity Class Information - NOW VIRTUAL!:

Check out the BHIP Facebook page for weekly home workout plans, live videos, and tips from your trainers. Look out for weekly emails and links to virtual Zoom workouts.

You may now register HERE for the WINTER BHIP OnGoing classes ($40/quarter)

As long as you have graduated BHIP On Ramp, you are eligible to enroll or re-enroll in BHIP Ongoing at any time.

**This registration is DIFFERENT than any prior BHIP OnGoing Membership you may have enrolled in. All memberships/payroll deductions were put ON HOLD in March, and will remain so for the time being. This is a one time payment to enroll in Fall 2020 only**
