Frequently Asked Questions

How may I rent gear?

Visit the online store and make sure you are signed in using your UCLA logon. Navigate to the items beginning with “OA Rental Center…” Click on the icon for the item you wish to rent. Scroll down to see the rentals available each week. Click “register” for the corresponding week that you wish to check out your items. Complete the registration process. Then, on the week of your rental, come to the Outdoor Adventures Rental Center to pick up your equipment during open hours.

Can I pick up or return my rental outside of Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 12:00 PM – 4:30 PM?

No. Rentals may only be picked up and returned during open hours, which are currently Tuesdays and Wednesdays of weeks 1-10, 12:00 PM – 4:30 PM. If you cannot pick up or drop off during these times, then you should not reserve gear, as there is no other method accepted for pick up or return.

May someone else retrieve the gear I rented for me?

No. Only the person renting the gear may pick up the items. During pick-up, you will produce your Bruin Card and sign a rental agreement. Only the person who signs the rental agreement is allowed to take the gear.

May someone else return the gear I rented for me?

Yes, someone else may return the gear you rented for you. Any issues with the return, such as late, damage, or replacement fees, are handled with you (i.e., the customer who paid for the rental).

How much do gear rentals cost?

The price of gear rentals is determined by what gear you would like to rent and whether it is a week-long rental or a “break” rental.

How long may I keep my rental gear?

During weeks 1-9 rentals are available for 6-8 days. You may only pick up and return rentals on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. So, the longest you could keep a rental during weeks 1-9 is 8 days, if you picked it up on a Tuesday and returned it on the Wednesday of the following week. The shortest you could keep the rental during weeks 1-9 would be 6 days, if you picked it up on a Wednesday and returned it on the Tuesday of the following week. Because the Rental Center is usually closed during Finals Week and Break Weeks each quarter, break rentals are offered on week 10 of each quarter to enable our customers to rent gear during the last week of classes and keep it until the next quarter begins.

Where are payments made and what types of payments are accepted?

Payments are made via our online store. Credit and debit card are accepted forms of payment. If you would like to pay with departmental recharge, please instead email us at rentalcenter@recreation.ucla.edu and we will make your reservations arrangements via email.

How do I check if gear is available?

Visit the online store and make sure you are signed in using your UCLA logon. Navigate to the items beginning with “OA Rental Center…” Click on the icon for the item you wish to rent. Scroll down to see the rentals available each week. Under each week’s listing, it will say “X Spots Left.” This is how many of that rental item remain available that week. If it says “0 Spots Left” than the rentals are all taken for that week.

All the rentals appear taken the week I wish to make a reservation. Is there a waiting list?

No, there is no waiting list. Its possible that someone might cancel their reservation. If that happens, then the online store will be updated to reflect the available rental. You are welcome to check the online store at your convenience to see if rentals become newly available.
